Our students sit their GCSE examinations over two years in order to accommodate the broad non-exam oriented core Waldorf curriculum. In Year 11 (class 10) the students take a maximum of four GCSEs: English, French, German and Mathematics. The remaining subjects are taken in Year 12 (class 11).

The Government's Examination Performance Statistics use the 5+ A*-C grades parameter for 15 year olds as the key measure of a school's academic performance. Together with other Steiner Waldorf Schools, Elmfield appears in these statistics regularly in a negative light, whilst the students who complete our top class generally leave with an excellent set of exam results. Virtually all go on to A-level college or other further education courses.
