Situated
on a green and leafy campus 13 miles West of Birmingham, Elmfield School is an
independent school with 320 places for children aged from 3 to 17. Pupils follow
the international Steiner Waldorf
curriculum and are presented for GCSE examinations.
The education, based on
the philosophy and educational insights of Rudolf Steiner, emphasises personal
responsibility and social awareness. It strives to engage and nourish each
child's innate curiosity and love of learning by offering a balance of
academic, artistic and practical activities. The motive of the education
is to equip young people emotionally, spiritually and intellectually, not
only to meet the future but to play a part in shaping it.
French and German are taught
from age six. Regular class exchanges are held with other European Steiner
Waldorf schools, and each year a number of pupils from abroad attend our Upper
School.

Waldorf schools world-wide, Elmfield School was founded 55 years ago
in 1946. It is subject to OFSTED inspections.
The mixed gender and ability classes have each about 20 to 25 pupils. Elmfield's
facilities include a hall and gymnasium and specialised rooms for art,
crafts and music. New buildings were opened in 1979 and 1995, providing
additional classrooms, a well equipped science laboratory, a special hall
for music, dance and movement, and facilities for information technology.
The buildings are surrounded by beautiful grounds which include safe playing
fields and a new multi-purpose hardcourt.
